False Bay

False Bay

False Bay gets it's name because early sailors mistook it for Table Bay. It can be reached by road or Metrorail and has some of Cape Towns most popular tourist attractions.

Muizenburg is a popular resort with a lovely sandy beach that caters for the full range of seaside activities. From here you can walk along the historic mile to St. James, with the sea on one side and the railway and mountain on the other.

On your way you can visit the Rhodes Cottage Museum and view rustic thatched Posthuys. This is thought to be the oldest building in South Africa.

St. James is a quint suburb with a sheltered pool to swim in and brightly coloured Victorian styled beach changing rooms.

Further along is the fishing harbour of Kalk Bay. Here you can see fish being unloaded and sold. There are trendy cafes and restaurants serving fresh fish, in addition to interesting antique shops.

You pass Fish Hoek before arriving in Simon's Town. This is the HQ of South African Navy. There are museums and shops to visit. It has a nautical feel with a yacht marina and a cobbled town square.

Very close by Boulder's Beach. This is the only penguin breeding colony on the mainland and you can get up close to penguins.
