Surrounding areas

The surrounding areas around Cape Town are rich with activities and places to see.

If you head up the West Coast you will find it more rugged and less populated. The West Coast National Park provides a rugged natural setting. Langebaan has a beautiful lagoon and Paternoster is a quaint fishing village.

Inland from here is the town of Darling. This is where satirist Pieter Dirk Uys has built a theatre complex and Boerassic Park, a satirical garden with statues depicting the funny and absurd side of South African life.

About 250km north of Cape Town is the Cederberg Mountains. This boasts spectacular rock formations which are ideal for climbing and hiking with well maintained foot paths.

The Garden Route that runs along the East Coast from Cape Town to Port Elizabeth. You pass through beautiful and spectacular scenery. Kynsna, Plettenberg Bay and George have stunning white beaches and Natures Valley has a lush green valley and beautiful beach.

At certain times of the year the coast is ideal for dolphin and whale watching. Just off the coast at Gansbaai is the worlds biggest concentration of Great White Sharks. This makes shark diving a big attraction in this area.

Inland is the semi desert of the Karoo. Outshoorn is famous for its ostrich farms which are well worth a visit. The 27km Swartberg Pass leading to Prince Albert is considered to be one of the most spectacular mountain passes in the world.
